Interview with Christian Sommer – How is Germany perceived in China?

Interview with Christian Sommer

“We try to avoid crises in Germany by planning – often a year in advance,” says Christian Sommer. He is CEO & Chairman of the German Center for Industry and Trade Shanghai Co Ltd, a successful platform for German-Chinese contacts and business.

In China, planning tends to be done on a quarterly basis, which already includes measures for implementation in the face of constantly changing global conditions.
Sommer has been living and working in China for more than 20 years. As bassist of the Shanghai rock band “ShangHighVoltage” and co-organizer of Chinese-German table tennis tournaments, the trained lawyer promotes German-Chinese cultural exchange.

Table tennis tournaments are a good opportunity to meet in person, have fun and build trust. “Constant competition and adherence to fair rules are also important principles in business,” says Sommer, himself an enthusiastic table tennis player.
“China recognizes very well when there is a winner and a second and third place. (…) As long as Germany is number one in Europe, we have a good chance of doing business with China,” says Sommer.

Our blog philosophy

What makes the Comsit blog special

As CBDO of ComSIT, I am responsible for the strategic development and project management of the company and can draw on many years of journalistic experience in the areas of technological and geopolitical developments, geostrategy, digital innovation and war reporting. I continue to actively pursue my passion for journalism, but the focus of my professional career is on project management, particularly in high technology (IT, semiconductors, automotive, energy).

My extensive experience as an entrepreneur, in project management, in administration, in sales and in specialized journalism, combined with intensive stays abroad in Asia, the trouble spots of the Middle East and North America, have led me to the conviction that technology must be at the heart of a sustainable change in our way of life. Only if we take global factors such as technological progress, geopolitical developments, conflicts and climate change into account can we survive as a society in the long term and conserve our planet’s resources.

I firmly believe that redefining business practices, particularly in the field of electrical engineering, can lead to the sustainable use of previously unused resources – a win-win situation for us all. In this context, our blog offers a variety of thought-provoking content, including interviews, essays, articles and analysis.

In my role as a manager at ComSIT, I enjoy working with great engineers and managers to develop new projects and bring them to market. With our blog, we want to express ComSIT’s sustainable and green philosophy and promote the exchange of ideas.

If you have any questions about my blog posts, I will be happy to answer them by e-mail as the blog’s editor-in-chief and look forward to any meaningful discussion, with best regards,

Simon Jacob
